How would I go about making a support for this desk?
  • My dad won't help me so I'm asking you guys. I have an L shaped desk, but we need half of it in the kitchen for the family computer.

(That would be the empty half on the right.) I've cleaned it out and detached it from the other half. As you can see, there's no support for the left side of it. I figure I can get a piece of wood cut at the Home Depot then stain it and use some wood glue to attach it and make a support. Nothing fancy - it just has to hold a mega-computer and not look like crap. I just have a few questions and would appreciate your expertise.

What kind of wood do I buy?
How thick should the wood be? (like 1/2 inch etc.)
Will wood glue work? Otherwise how should I attach it?

Any other tips too would be great.

  • Go to the section of home depot where they have fence railings and buy 2 deck railing posts or a 2x2x8 piece of wood and make 2 legs for that side. If you get the 2x2x8' you can make a support between the two legs like chairs have. You can cut the 2x2 and glue supports under that side using gorilla glue and a few screws to attach the legs to. Make a 2 little boxes underneath and slip the 2x2 leg into it with glue and a couple screws. Stain to match desk!
