Was there ever a twin engine version of the P-51 Mustang?
  • i remember watching a show a couple years back on the history channel and i thought i saw a twin engine version of the P-51. i cant remember what i saw very well since it's been several years. can anyone tell me if it ever existed at one point in WW II? if it does exist please post a pic of it so i can see it. and if possible anything you know about it such as the armaments, speed, and other things.

  • I don't think so, but there was the F-82, basically two P51H's glued together.

  • Not only was it twin-engined, it was actually twin-bodied. It was two, separate fuselages separated slightly by an inner wing, then with a wing coming from each one. It was a pretty rare proto-type, so you don't see it often. Not sure if there's a picture online or not.

    p.s. Here ya go!

  • i think what your thinking about is the P-38 Lightning which was fast and well armed like the P-51
